Since December 2024, the LUIS has been operating a research instance of the open source ELN eLabFTW and making it available to the institutes and facilities of LUH. It supports employees in the digital planning and documentation of their research work, such as laboratory activities, simulation studies or practical experiments. Thanks to its high degree of flexibility, eLabFTW can be adapted to the needs of a wide range of disciplines.
At the Institute of Geodesy, the working group “Positioning and Navigation” has successfully established the ELN and has already used it many times, so that all current and future research work is now planned and documented digitally. In addition, earlier, sometimes very heterogeneously documented work is gradually being transferred to the ELN, which will also create a homogeneous research database retrospectively.
The obstacles encountered during the introduction and practical implementation as well as the knowledge and experience gained are discussed in detail in the interview with colleagues from the RDM.
