Short Biography

Wolfgang Torge is an emeritus professor at Leibniz Universität Hannover. He graduated in Surveying and started his career in applied geophysics, land surveying, cadastral surveying, research assistance and  foreign aid. He then accepted a professorship at the Institute of Geodesy at Leibniz Universität Hannover in 1968, where he specialized in geometric and physical geodesy. Since he retired in 1996 he has dedicated himself to the history of geodesy.

Wolfgang Torge is the honorary president of the International Association of Geodesy (IAG) and receiver of the prestigious Helmert-Gedenkmünze - the Helmert commemorative coin - of the DVW (Deutscher Verein für Vermessungswesen).
